Styling Librarian: What are you reading? Monday 3/19/12
What have I read in this past week? Well, read loads of picture books with various topics mixed in. Also, I enjoyed two chapter books…
I am currently finishing reading:
When Life Gives You O.J. by Erica S. Perl
This book is quite the hilarious treasure to enjoy. It is throwing me back to a time when my grandparents on my mom’s side were alive and how conversations with them progressed with Yiddish words naturally mixed throughout. I also think the concept is original but so easy for any child to identify with if they’ve ever really wanted something… with this girl Zelly, she passionately wants to have a dog…
There’s a cute YouTube video promoting it:
I felt encouraged to read this after listening to Erica S. Perl talk about it on Katie Davis Brain Burps About Books podcast: http://katiedavis.com/

I’ve also finished reading recently…

The most memorable book this week was: Me Want Pet! by Tammy Sauer, pictures by Bob Shea.
I absolutely loved this book and found the following video: “How to Draw a Dodo Bird” fabulous as a simple how to draw instruction plus book promotion video. There are other videos as well: how to draw a wooly mammoth and a sabertooth tiger. I used this today with a Kindergarten class- showed the how to draw video first and then read aloud the book. They were simply amazed at the connections and were excited when they saw “Toothy” as part of the story. Love what amazes Kindergarteners.

Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner - What a gorgeous peaceful book with fabulous information at the end. Beautiful illustrations as well!.
.
.
Underwear Do’s and Don’ts by Tom Parr – very cute and humorous, I read this one because of another blogger’s post, glad I did so!
.

.
.
.
Mustache! by Mac Barnett, illustrated by Kevin Cornell- Hilarious picture book with the story of a stubborn, egotistical king who cares more about his handsome face than his subjects’ needs…
.
Bee and Bird by Craig Frazier - Gorgeous wordless picture books with beautiful glimpse into the interaction between a bee and bird on a little adventure.

**Side note- I tend to read loads of articles and webpage posts every week, the one that amused me this week is Lisa Yee’s post with video called “How I Write Books- The Movie”
