Styling Librarian: Gumraiser Day Part 2:

May 11, 2012

Students, gum and candy took over the library!

My student library advisory club just ran Gumraiser Day in honor of National Children’s Book Week for this Friday. What a fun time it is to see everything come together after discussions and planning for a few months. Here’s the original blog post: Styling Librarian: Gumraiser Day

Here’s the scoop: Students were all welcome during their lunch recess times into the library this Friday, May 11th to purchase a piece of gum for $ .25. The club agreed the rules are: they must chew the gum only in the library, no refunds, students may only spend up to $5, and if a student donates a $1, they will receive one piece of gum and a special bracelet. The club ran the selling, monitoring, and reading aloud of books during the fundraiser and everyone was excited to have an opportunity chew gum in the library!

It was quite a fun time with a vote on where funds would be donated, what choices there were for the gum, a special bracelet give-away for the first 20 students who donated a $1- they went quick!, and also loads of fun with the students enthusiastically reading aloud to groups on the “quieter” side of the library. Everyone was having a load of fun. Now comes the donation, letters, and reflection on what was successful (and what wasn’t) next week! What a fun time this was to watch in action. Special to not have to help too much as the club members enjoyed the selling, reading, poster making, PA Announcements, fundraising, and gum monitoring.

Here’s a glimpse of the Gumraiser:
