Styling Librarian: Zapato Power Book Series

Zapato Power Series by Jacqueline Jules
I love these books! They are perfect for read aloud and class discussions and also books students will beg to read again and find more… I’m thrilled that Zapato Power: Freddie Ramos Takes Off is part of two Oregon reading programs: Oregon Battle of the Books and Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Awards, many more readers will love reading the books! My students still clamor for the books years later. Here are the topics that are touched in the books: Multicultural, fantasy, action, adventure, mystery, superheroes, creativity, investigation. And I always ask: What would you do if you were given a super power? I love who invents the shoes and additionally how Freddie Ramos takes action with the shoes, most of his actions are ones that can lead to terrific discussions. Additionally, Freddy’s beautiful relationship with his mom can be a discussion point.
I loved Freddie Ramos Makes a Splash by Jacqueline Jules! Always an interesting story for a fabulous read aloud, can’t wait to share with my student reading fans. I decided to write this review by asking my son to talk about Zapato Power: Freddie Ramos Makes a Splash by Jacqueline Jules right after we finished reading the book, here is the conversation:
What did you enjoy about this book?
1. I liked how Freddie learned to swim.
2. How do you become a shark? Means your super at swimming. I think I’d be a dolphin or maybe a frog or a crocodile.
3. I liked how the mystery was solved (of missing backpack) – She didn’t even do it!? Oh… That was cool.
4. The bully was mean, meaner, so mean that she took a puppy’s bone!
5. Goggles made Freddie brave, they help me too!

Thanks for the spout out!
