Styling Librarian Week 33 Hong Kong Update

March 10, 2013
pdxweird Can you believe it? We found a Keep Portland Weird! sticker over here in Hong Kong! Delighted. Plus an AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS Bakery and random, “what did I just see on that shelf?” store as well. See pictures in the second slideshow below…What. A. Week. It was a busy, special week. As I mentioned in my #ThirstDay post, we had a week of team planning meetings for all grade levels in addition to having mother-tongue guest readers and a celebration of World Book Day and Book Character Day. It was quite fun and entertaining. I’m working on my posts about World Book Day and Book Character Day in addition to my post on a fantastic author visit with Alan Gibbons. I’m also working on my technology blog posts… they’re all coming around soon enough. For now, I thought since I took random pictures it would be fun to upload and just write captions on the pictures. Sorry to those that are just reading the email edition of this, you might need to click on the direct link… Here’s a glimpse at a week in Hong Kong with some cool views, interesting stores, and a neighboring library visit… Enjoyed these days but very happy to have RxR time now! Also, realizing there are only 2 weeks before my family flies back to the US for a two week visit. Feeling quite excited!

We went to see a movie first thing Saturday morning, Oz The Great and Powerful. I’ve been reading the Oz series for a while with my son. We really enjoy reading each book… We all wanted to see this movie. My husband and I are huge fans of Zach Braff, so that was a big draw for us to be honest but my son and I were curious to see Oz come to life. We enjoyed the movie as a family. It was quite scary at times, our son leaped into our arms during a number of scenes, but he really enjoyed it overall.

Also, I enjoyed going to a few places in Stanley with my husband on our date night- nice area with a beach and good recreation areas. We went here a few months ago but tonight it was all about good food and random places. This time we took a green minibus that was $1.25 US, it took only  35 minutes vs. taking a larger bus over an hour to get us there… Pleasant enough rides as long as you clung to the handle of the seat in front of you when the minibus went around curves. It is a huge Hong Kong tourist destination, but it is quite special. I added notes to each picture for further details about our adventures. We especially loved a bakery that it pictured at the top of this post. I especially loved finding a “What would fairies do?” and “female mustaches” temptations at the bakery.

  1. Love, love, love your wonderful posts!! I’m looking forward to following in your “footsteps” via Quito. Thanks for continuing to inspire me. Question(s): How do you do your videos/slideshows? Is it through your iPhone or iPad and do you have the customized version (paid) of WordPress for your blog?

    • Videos/slideshows:
Videos: Usually I use my iPhone for live video and Screenr for computer videos. Slideshows- When I am adding a picture in WordPress, I can choose create gallery and then choose in the drop down menu slideshow, etc. I could make a video of it if you want! :) I don’t use my ipad too much for videos. Just not as easy to manipulate (yet). There are a few cool apps I haven’t worked into my natural routine yet though.
I have the customized version – paid- for my blog. But I sometimes regret that I did so. There are many limitations and I am not in the mood to attempt adjusting much at this point… :)
